STEAM Roadmap
Why STEAM?
As a key component of our district’s vision, we aim to be a model of world-class education to prepare our students for 21st century success with the skills to succeed in college and career. NUSD has developed a framework that supports all content areas by focusing on coherent curriculum in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) disciplines.
STEAM curriculum, aligned with the common core standards, teaches academic and college-career related skills including: collaboration across disciplines and people, critical thinking, communication across disciplines, and creativity. These domains, the Four C’s, create an environment for teachers and students to be innovative and apply high-level conceptual thinking to everyday life, preparing students to graduate college and career ready.
Our STEAM Journey
Our school roadmap began in 2017-18 with a focus on one STEAM discipline supported by the Four C’s. This foundation became the support for a process in which our focus could expand to ensure integration of all five STEAM disciplines.
